Your Skin Changes With Your Hormones — Not Just During the Teenage Years
We all sort of expect our skin to go a little haywire as teenagers. What catches most of us off guard is when it happens again, years later, and we’re left wondering what in the world changed.
Here’s the thing — women go through several major hormonal shifts over a lifetime, and our skin usually feels every one of them. Maybe it’s more dryness than you’re used to. Maybe it’s sensitivity that wasn’t there before, a breakout in your thirties or forties that feels awfully familiar, or oil production that’s suddenly doing its own thing. Skin that just doesn’t act the way it used to.
And that’s usually when the frustration sets in. We keep reaching for the same routine we’ve used for years, and we can’t figure out why it’s stopped working the way it used to.
Here’s what I’ve learned, both from working with goat milk skincare and just from getting older myself: your skin probably doesn’t need more products. It may just need something different for the stage of life you’re actually in right now.
That’s what I’m getting into in this week’s Ask the Goat Lady — hormonal changes, how they show up on our skin well past our teenage years, and why it pays to actually pay attention to what your skin is trying to tell you.
